Beach days are right around the corner! If you are a lucky duck maybe you've already squeezed in a beach visit this season. It has taken awhile for the weather to get warm here in New Hampshire but now that it has, it feels like we have skipped Spring altogether and jumped straight to Summer. Early June can be like that in New England and you know what? I'm okay with it.

When it comes to beaches in the U.S Dr. Beach knows his stuff. I mean you throw doctor in front of just about anything and all of a sudden we put all of our trust into that person. Well, he (or she) is a DOCTOR, so they must know best. But in all seriousness, Dr Beach has been reviewing, evaluating, and rating beaches for over 30 years.

Of course I like to keep an eye on what beaches make Dr Beach's top 10 list every year. I often feel like New England beaches are overlooked, especially northern New England. I know New Hampshire only has 18 miles of coastline but we are home to some of the most beautiful beaches, in my humble opinion. Rye Beach is like something out of a postcard! I think we are often snubbed on this list.

However there was one New England beach that made the list by the skin of it's teeth it came in at #10.

Growing up we would spend a lot of our Summer in Cape Cod. My grandparents had a beach house that parents now live in full time and it is just a beautiful place to be. The beaches all throughout the Cape serve up some of the best conditions; warm water, smooth sand, great beach food, and killer waves.

Coast Guard Beach in Eastham, Massachusetts, came in as the #10 most beautiful beach in the U.S in 2025.

There were a few factors that contributed to this beach's cameo on the list.

Accessibility

Coast Guard Beach is accessible by bicycle from the Salt Pond Visitor’s Center or shuttle bus.

The Views

The picturesque old Coast Guard station still sits atop the glacial bluffs, allowing for a spectacular view of the Nauset Spit barrier system and bay.

The Water is Refreshing

Some people don't appreciate that much of the Cape is made up of beaches with very warm water, comparable to bath water. This doesn't exactly cool you down on a hot Summer day. However the water at Coast Guard Beach is chilly, so beachgoers often take quick, efficient dips and are sufficiently cooled off and refreshed.

But...what about the Sharks?!

It's true, sharks are a risk at beaches on the Cape. Seals have moved northward from Monomoy Island Wildlife Refuge into the populated beaches, which has attracted great white sharks.  But at Coast Guard Beach the lifeguards do a terrific job of warning if these predators are present by flying red flags with shark images on those days. It's a good idea to always swim near a lifeguard so that you will be safe.

Most of the other beaches on the list are in New York, Florida, or Hawaii (it's tough to compete with Hawaii) check out the full list of Dr Beach's 2025 Best Beaches here.
