This Cozy Oceanfront Bar Once Called Old Orchard Beach, Maine, Home
Each and every summer, thousands upon thousands of people visit one of Maine's most popular tourism towns, Old Orchard Beach. The wide-spanning beach, carnival games and rides, and consistently delicious food have all been draws over the years for so many.
But through the decades, Old Orchard Beach's main drag has changed. Whether for better or worse, development has taken place and wiped out some of the smallest and most memorable places visitors frequented. One of those places was an oceanside bar and restaurant called the Krazy Klam.
The Krazy Klam was everything you'd want a beachfront bar to be. It had two floors and featured a "rooftop" deck with spectacular views of the ocean and the beach. The ground level featured plenty of patio seating and a regular rotation of entertainment, from acoustic musicians to karaoke.
One of the biggest appeals of the Krazy Klam was their seafood platters. Fried seafood platters were a huge draw for the Klam, as well as their cooked lobster dinners. Pair those seafood dishes with one of the Klam's signature stiff cocktails, and people kept returning year after year.
Development was what brought the end of the Krazy Klam. The property was sold off to make way for the Grand Victorian condo complex that now stands as a centerpiece of the main strip in Old Orchard Beach. The Krazy Klam, carnival games, batting cages, and the Dream Machine arcade all became a memory from the past.
The development machine never stops in desirable places like Old Orchard Beach. The real question is, which spot is the next to become a memory from the past?
