If your summer plans involved strolling through a berry field, channeling your inner farm-to-table influencer — bad news came this week. Two of Maine’s best-known pick-your-own farms are taking the 2025 season off… but not by choice.

Jordan’s Farm in Cape Elizabeth is ending its pick-your-own strawberry season early. According to a post shared on social media and reported by News Center Maine, the farm said the combo of a wet, chilly spring and overwhelming demand made it tough to manage both the pick-your-own fields and their busy farm stand. They didn’t want to offer a “meh” experience, so they hit pause — but promised they will return for the 2026 season.

Basically, the cool, wet spring basically slowed the berries to a crawl, cut down yields, and piled on the pressure for already maxed-out local farms trying to keep up with the rush.

Meanwhile in Limerick, the news was a bit more of a gut punch. Libby & Son U-Picks — the scenic, fruit-slinging hilltop farm that was named #2 Best Apple Orchard in the U.S. by USA Today in 2024 — announced they’re shutting down for the entire 2025 season. As reported by News Center Maine, the farm cited a mix of “foreseen and unforeseen factors” and said the decision came after a lot of reflection. You can read their statement here. Although no clear timeline was given, the business states that it is “permanently closed” at the time of this article.

It’s a weird year for berries in Maine, but here’s hoping the fields are full and ready again come 2026.
