Metallica Fans Share Some Of Their Favorite Song Lyrics
One of the coolest things Metallica pack their deluxe reissue box sets with are folders full of prints of handwritten lyrics. Fans get an intimate peek at some of the most iconic metal songs of all time, seeing how the words take shape and turn into the full track. It's another dimension of understanding how Metallica operate; not only do they share demos and cuts from their "riff tapes" with fans, but they give you the lyrical beginnings of their songs, too.
Metallica have explored many lyrical themes over their 40-plus years together, from addiction and death to Biblical stories and rock and roll. Needless to say, with 10 studio albums under their belt, if you ask 100 Metallica fans what their favorite lyrics are, chances are you'll get 100 completely different answers.
Over on our Facebook and Twitter pages, we did just that.
When you've been making music for more than 40 years, you've no doubt learned a thing or two about how to write a good song. Yeah, there's a heavy guitar riff here, an impossible drum beat there and a sick bass solo somewhere in-between, but there's also a word or two that hits a listener in such a personal way that it sticks with them forever.
Metallica do it all—the riffs, the beats, the solos—and they also do a pretty damn fine job of throwing some words together to create unforgettable songs. Since the penetrating words "No life 'til leather" opened Kill 'Em All back in 1983, Metallica have continued to craft some of the most memorable metal lyrics of all time.
