The Maine Mammoth's kicked off their National Arena League season at the Cross Insurance Arena versus the Caroling Cobras as fans packed the stands to see Maine's first Arena Football team play.

The floor that traditionally only sees ice hockey and basketball for sporting events is transformed into a miniature football field where fans are so close to the action, that they can catch and keep footballs that go into the stands or may even find a player in their lap as they go over the boards to attempt a catch. Both happened in Saturday night's home opener.

Unfortunately the Mammoths couldn't come out on top and lost to the Cobras 56-42, but they'll be home again at the Cross Insurance Arena on May 5 to take on the Jacksonville Sharks. You can get tickets at MaineMammoths.com.

Saturday night's full game is available to watch on YouTube. If you've never seen arena football, take a look. It'll probably make you want to go see the Mammoths in person!
