If you do enough traveling around Maine, there are certain landmarks that start to feel like a piece of the state that needs to be treasured.

One of those landmarks is the Mollyockett Motel in Woodstock, Maine.

Over the course of the last six decades, those that regularly travel along Route 26 in Maine have spotted the same classic motel on their way to visit ski mountains,  hiking trails or to spend a day on a lake.

The Mollyockett Motel was in a state of flux, as the iconic roadside motel was set to be auctioned off in late-July with a future that seemed anything but certain.

That classic roadside motel isn't going anywhere. Shared on social media, Travis Stearns and Kinsey Durgin have purchased the Mollyockett Motel and have already announced some of their plans for the place.

The new owners plan to update all common areas of the motel as well as the guest rooms with more modernized amenities and feel.

They also plan to update the pool house as it serves as a key attraction for potential guests.

The new owners are also planning to drop the motel from the name. The iconic property will simply be known as The Mollyockett moving forward.

The Mollyockett in Maine Has Had a Rich History

Built in 1968, the Mollyockett is fit for 20 rooms with the potential to move up to 30 rooms. There was an indoor pool added to the property in 1980 and then a restaurant and function room sometime around 2007.

The Mollyockett has had several owners over the course of nearly six decades with new ownership hoping to revitalize what has been a special roadside landmark for so many for so long.

This story will be updated when the Mollyockett announces a grand opening date.
