Yep, ‘Game of Thrones’ is 2016’s Most Pirated TV Series Too
Considering Game of Thrones began its 2016 run with one of the series’ biggest reveals to date, and closed out the final 10-episode season with a hearty tease for summer 2017, is it any wonder the series continues to dominate the year’s most pirated TV? See what else made the list, including your next HBO obsession, and surprising entry from the comic world.
TorrentFreak once again issued their list of the year’s most-downloaded TV series, though they declined to reveal download estimates, as “due to various changes in the torrent index/tracker landscape it’s become more challenging to monitor downloads.” Still, as with 2015, Game of Thrones and Walking Dead lead the pack, with Westworld making a speedy entry at number 3, while newcomers like FOX’s Lucifer and Amazon’s The Grand Tour join the party:
- Game of Thrones
- The Walking Dead
- Westworld
- The Flash
- Arrow
- The Big Bang Theory
- Vikings
- Lucifer
- Suits
- The Grand Tour
This is now the first year that The Flash has overtaken Arrow, even as The CW’s speedy drama didn’t make the 2014 list, owing to an October premiere. Knocked off the list from last year are Mr. Robot, The Blacklist and Supergirl. Also, keep in mind that actual piracy numbers from file hosting sites may prove significantly higher, and the list better reflects series airing by appointment on actual television, rather than streaming platforms like Netflix or Hulu.
It’s almost too easy to presume Game of Thrones might take the same title in 2017 (even with fewer episodes), but what other big changes might we see in download habits next year?
