Big plans are in the works at Mt. Abram Ski Resort as they get ready to start construction on Maine's largest mountain bike trail.

Mt. Abram Ski Resort in Greenwood announced last week that ground will be broken in June to build 14 to 16 mountain bike trails over the next few years that will offer bikers lift service with chairs that will can chairs up the mountain to the bike trails.

The park will open in June of 2020 with the first phase of trails. Beginner terrain, intermediate, and aggressive downhill trails with drops and jumps are planned and rental bikes, helmets and pads will be available. If you are new to mountain biking, professional mountain bike instructors will give lessons.

The second phase would open in the summer of 2021 with an expansion adding more trails for all abilities. Alex Graves, Mt. Abram’s grooming and snowmaking supervisor, will be designing the trails, having designed Bacon Hill mountain bike trails, the Bethel Village trails and even snowparks.
