It's hard to imagine that 12 years has gone by since this epic event took place. Was this the biggest concert Portland, Maine, has ever had? My guess would be yes.

You didn’t even need to be a Mumford and Sons fan to know that the place to be on August 4, 2012, was the Eastern Promenade in Portland, Maine. The British folk band graced us with one of their four Gentlemen of the Road Stopover dates, transforming our scenic prom into a hub of good music and good vibes. People flocked from all over, filling the prom with 15,000 fans, creating an atmosphere that still lingers in Portland's memory.

It wasn’t just about Mumford and Sons, although let’s be real, they were the stars of the show. For most, it was their first time hearing the band's soon-to-be monster hit, “I Will Wait,” live. The crowd’s reaction? Pure magic. The song’s infectious energy united everyone in a sing-along by the final chorus, that echoed across the bay.

But it wasn't just about Mumford & Sons. We got to see future Grammy Award winners Haim, a sister trio, along with St. Vincent, and let’s not forget our neighbors from Boston, the Dropkick Murphys, who cranked up the intensity with their signature Celtic punk rock. This sold-out event, blending a mix of genres and vibes, catered to almost every musical taste.

Looking back, that day was more than just a concert; it was a celebration of music, community, and summer fun... the weather was perfect and the vibe was perfect. The Eastern Promenade never looked so good, and Portland hasn’t seen an event quite like it since. It was one of those perfect days that remind you why Portland, Maine is a hidden gem on the concert circuit. Whether you were a die-hard Mumford and Sons fan or just there for the experience, it was a day to remember.
