Maine Craft Beer

Maine's craft beer industry is an absolute giant.

As of this publishing, there are over 100 breweries in the state. In 2019, Maine had the second-highest brewery per capita number (9.6) in the country.

This leads to two conclusions: Mainers love beer and local businesses.

This state was built to be a craft beer oasis. The culture, tourism, and support of everything local is basically an ethos for a craft brewery hotspot. And the numbers don't lie.

With so much wonderful beer in state, I thought it would be fun to focus on one region and highlight the breweries there.

Aroostook County and Downeast Maine Breweries

Aroostook County and Downeast Maine are two very well-known regions of this great state. While not the most populous, it doesn't mean they don't have a great craft beer tradition.

Some of these breweries are barely a few years old, while others have been enjoying Maine's microbrewery culture for some time. It's a very unique group.

Aroostook County is a wondrous and beautiful area. The rural county is extraordinarily remote, with less than 70,000 people in such a vast region. However, it's not without its hamlets. And those spots feature a few very well-known breweries like First Mile and Northern Maine Brewing.

Downeast Maine is a little bit more lively. The region does include Bar Harbor and Acadia National park. This certainly makes it much more of a destination than Aroostook. One of the more popular is Atlantic Brewing in Bar Harbor. It's actually one of the oldest in the entire state.

You can see the group below. And, if you want to find out more about Maine's great craft breweries, you can visit the Maine Brewer's Guild online.

Maine's Downeast and Aroostook County Craft Breweries

Two of Maine's largest regions don't necessarily have the largest populations. However, that hasn't stopped the areas from opening killer craft breweries, and taking advantage of the local and tourist dollar.

Here is a list of the breweries you can find in Aroostook County and Downeast Maine.
