New Toy Store Has Grand Opening at the Maine Mall in South Portland

Many malls across the country are struggling. Here in Maine, several prominent malls in the state have been transitioned into industrial space, housing, or are still just sitting vacant.

That isn't the case for the Maine Mall. The South Portland staple has continued to thrive, even during tumultuous times in recent years. In fact, the Maine Mall has recently become a place where several new retailers are getting their start.

That includes the newest addition to the Maine Mall lineup. A store called the Toy Depot has officially opened near Pac Sun and Claire's by the food court. It had been listed as 'coming soon' for months before the grand opening.

But if you were hoping for a classic, old school-style toy store like KB Toys, the Toy Depot won't satisfy that itch. The Toy Depot offers a variety of different playful items, stuffies, and collectibles. Don't expect a stockpile of action figures or lego sets.

The Toy Depot joins several new stores amongst the Maine Mall's recent openings. Last September, Miniso opened their first location in the state inside the Maine Mall. The brightly lit store can be found in the wing with Newbury Comics.

Just a couple months later, another national retailer opened their first Maine location in the mall. That would be BoxLunch, which is an offshoot of Hot Topic. The sleek store features a ton of licensed and unlicensed merchandise centered around Disney and other pop culture phenomena.

With the addition of the Toy Depot, the Maine Mall has almost no retail vacancy.
