
Here’s What is Replacing The North Point in Portland, Maine
Things began to feel very bleak for the Portland, Maine, restaurant scene several months ago. Many notable restaurants as well as a few newcomers all announced permanent closures within weeks of one another leaving people to wonder whether Portland's food scene may be in trouble.
But over the past few weeks, there have been glimmers of hope as new restaurants are taking shape. Some of the most prime vacancies in the Old Port are being filled including the one left behind by The North Point.
Taj Restaurant Will Expand and Open a New Location in Portland, Maine
According to Portland Old Port, the popular Indian cuisine restaurant Taj is set for the next big project. An expansion into Portland's Old Port in the former space occupied by The North Point.
The restaurant will be called Silver Street by Taj and will feature many of the signature dishes that has made the South Portland Taj location a massive success. There will also be some new dishes made just for this location as well as a full creative bar program.
Silver Street by Taj hopes to be ready for a grand opening by sometime in April.
Vacancies in Portland Continue to Be Filled
While some prominent vacancies in Portland still remain, there will be plenty to look forward to this spring. The fully renovated and reimagined Dry Dock restaurant is set for a grand opening. Za Pizzeria has taken over the former home of Slab with hopes to open sometime this spring.
Outside of the peninsula, North Deering Tavern (formerly known as Samuel's) is set for a grand opening and a reimagining of their cozy neighborhood pub.
