New Concert Hall Proposed For Portland’s Old Port
Nearly five years ago, Portland, Maine, said goodbye to a concert venue that it didn't get to enjoy long enough. That would be Port City Music Hall, who closed their doors in the summer of 2020 due to circumstances surrounding the pandemic.
Despite the closure, the live music industry in Portland continues to thrive thanks to a variety of other spaces, indoor and outdoor. Portland continues to see a stream of quality bands, artists and comedians pass through the city.
But developers believe there is still room for more entertainment in Maine's largest city. And they're hopeful to bring a new mid-size venue to the bustling Old Port neighborhood.
Live at Madrid's is Proposed as a Concert Venue in Portland's Old Port
According to MaineBiz, developers would like to transform the space at 144 Fore Street into a brand new, year-round concert venue they plan to call Live at Madrid's. The venue would be located in a portion of the Old Port that has seen significant expansion in recent years.
The concept behind the concert venue is to fill the void left behind by Port City Music Hall with a focus on local and regional acts as well as a showcase venue for bristling national tours.
Live at Madrid's Could Have a Lot of Things Going For It
If the new concert venue is approved, Live at Madrid's is likely going to have plenty working in its favor.
Parking won't be a problem for the 800 person capacity venue. There are parking garages in close proximity to the proposed venue. Noise complaints shouldn't be an issue, either. The venue is surrounded by businesses and hotels.
Speaking of hotels, a rotating customer base can be a boost for a concert venue looking to pad their day-of ticket sales.
Live at Madrid's Won't Just Be a Concert Venue
As stated in the MaineBiz article, Live at Madrid's plans to be available for more than live music performances. They're hopeful to be a spot where companies can host gatherings or weddings can be held. That area in the Old Port is in need of a solid wedding venue.
If all the plans are approved, Live at Madrid's is hopeful to open early in 2026.
