As cities and towns across Maine attempt to continue working for their constituents, moving things online is the only option in this time of social distancing.

That includes town council meetings where are required to be open to the public.

But as one town in Maine found out on Wednesday, online meetings can present some different possible interruptions than in-person ones.

According to the Bangor Daily News, the Bath Town Council held a public meeting on Wednesday evening to discuss local issues. They held that meeting on Zoom, a suddenly wildly popular online platform for meetings.

A portion of the way through the online meeting, the town council was interrupted by unknown users who began sharing pornographic images during the meeting, the newspaper stated, and other unknown users were also using profanity in attempt to disrupt.

The unknown users could have come from anywhere across the country or globe.

These interruptions on Zoom have become known as "Zoom Bombs" and have been happening with more frequency over the past several weeks as more people move meetings online.

The Bath Town Council canceled the remainder of the meeting on Wednesday and plans to resume it on Monday evening with a new layer of security measures in place, according to the BDN.
