One of America’s Oldest Candy Shops is in Boothbay Harbor, Maine
Whether people want to admit it or not, most of us enjoy a good piece of candy.
So much so that candy can be found at most grocery stores, convenience stores and gas stations across the country.
There's nothing wrong with a good candy bar but there's something to be said for a traditional candy store. One that has display cases, handmade candies and items that you just can't seem to find anywhere else.
Most of those old school candy shops have come and gone. Unless you're visiting Boothbay Harbor, Maine, of course.
Orne's in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, is One of the Oldest Candy Shops in America
Chowhound recently released a list of the oldest candy shops in America still operating. Number five on their list was a Boothbay Harbor landmark, Orne's Candy Shop.

Founded in 1885, the original Orne's centered around offering customers ice cream, bananas and handcrafted candy.
The store was an instant hit and the owner, often referred to as "Aunt Addie", expanded her inventory to include fine chocolates and different styles of candies.
In 1960, Orne's was sold to the Webster family who have kept the tradition running ever since.
Orne's Has Added One Particular Best-Selling Item That People Love
Despite the store being more than 140 years old, not a lot has changed in nearly a century-and-a-half. With one big exception.
When the Webster family took over ownership of Orne's, they wanted to add homemade fudge to their offerings.
Eventually perfecting the recipe, the varieties of fudge found at Orne's has been the best-selling item the store has and keeps people coming back year after year.
