When the Rock Row development in Westbrook was introduced, one of the key (and most intriguing) elements to the complex was the addition of an outdoor concert venue. The last three years have wreaked havoc on the best-laid plans for that venue. Between multiple years of COVID complications and lawsuits involving noise complaints, the sun has set on outdoor concerts at Rock Row. So what does a bustling new development do with all that open and available space? Fill it with people...and beer.

According to the Portland Press Herald, Rock Row is going to use some of the available space from the defunct concert venue and transition it into an outdoor beer garden from May through October. The plan is to take a portion of the dirt parking lot that was assigned to the concert venue, cover it in turf, and proceed with an open-air beer garden for the warmest months of the year.

The beer garden will feature selections from Smuttynose Brewing from New Hampshire, with rotating food trucks and an ice cream truck joining the beer truck on its busiest days. The initial plan is to build a small stage for low-frequency live music. The beer garden will also have a standalone bathroom. All amplified music will cease by 9pm.

The beer garden in 2022 at Rock Row will serve as a tryout of sorts for a more permanent outdoor beer garden at the same site in the future. The official opening date and hours of operation are expected to be announced soon.
