Not a Single Maine City Makes List of ‘250 Best Pizza Cities in America’
Pizza in Maine was a pretty hot topic towards the end of 2023. A large part of that attention came from Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, who visited Maine and did his very first set of slice reviews. He even fell in love with Monte's Find Foods in Portland during the process.
Some additional attention was paid to a pizza place far away from Portland. The New York Times deemed Tinder Hearth in Brooksville, Maine, as one of the 50 best restaurants in America for 2023. A notable honor, for sure.
While that attention and those accolades would suggest there's plenty of fantastic pizza to find throughout Vacationland, a new study from Pizzello doesn't agree.
Pizzello is a popular purveyor of pizza ovens. They've been piecing together yearly studies of the '250 Best Cities in America for Pizza'. They collect the data from Google reviews across cities and compute an average score. And somehow, not a single city in Maine could manage to make their list for 2024.
It should probably be considered an insult for the great pizza makers in the state. Maine was the only state in New England that didn't have a single city make the list. While Maine had zero entries, Massachusetts had nine different cities on the list of 250.
The two highest-rated cities on Pizzello's list are New Haven, Connecticut, at number 24 and Nashua, New Hampshire, at number 25.
While every town and city in Maine may have been off the list this year, people who live, work, and eat in the state know there's plenty of good pizza to be found.
