One of Freeport's longest tenured restaurants is set to close this weekend and patrons of the restaurant are not happy about it. Azure Cafe took to Facebook to announce that they would be closing their popular restaurant on February 23rd after they couldn't come to agreement on a lease extension with their landlord.

Comments poured in on the Facebook post, some filled with sadness that their favorite restaurant would be closing while others were irritated with the landlord that an agreement couldn't be reached to keep Azure in place. The family-owned restaurant shared some sadness that they wouldn't be continuing to operate but also much appreciation to the staff and patrons that made their establishment a success for nearly two decades.

Azure Cafe is the latest departure as the Town of Freeport attempts to navigate the tumultuous retail market. Several stores, including Abercrombie + Fitch and Bass have closed their doors in recent months as many retailers reassess their need for brick-and-mortar locations. That has left Freeport, centered on its retail outlets, trying to navigate the rising tide.

Azure Cafe opened in 2002 and will be operate their final dinner service this Sunday, February 23rd before closing their doors for good.
