Researchers Determine Maine’s Favorite Swear Words To Use On The Internet (NSFW)

Gawker released a brand new scientific study that looked at how often states across America used specific swear words. Jack Grieve, a professor at Aston University in England worked with Diansheng Guo from the University of South Carolina and they collected nearly 9 billion tweets from Twitter.
From there, they did a bunch of science stuff, analyzing them and then creating a hot/cold map to determine each state's favorite and least favorite cuss words.
Maine's favorite swear word is asshole. I don't think that comes as a giant surprise to anyone that has grown up here or just spent a few years living in Maine. The C-Word rolls in at #2, which again, is hardly a surprise.
Maine's least favorite swear word is shit. This is pretty much a stunner for me. I can't go through a day at work without hearing that at least 5 times. BUT, to be fair, the data was collected from tweets so perhaps there's a difference between how comfortable people are with writing out various cuss words and actually saying them.
