Call it a comeback. There's been a renewed interest from video game enthusiasts over the last couple of years in getting out the house and joining friends at an arcade.

Prior to the days of high-end home systems, arcades were packed with people popping quarters into machines to play their favorite old and new games that they couldn't find anywhere else.

Even with video games more accessible than ever, the nostalgia paired with the community of arcades is finding its footing once again. And soon, there will be a new retro-style arcade to enjoy in downtown Biddeford.

Rift Arcade Set to Open on Main Street in Biddeford

For several months, Rift Arcade has been teasing their plans to an interested audience through social media. Rift has been promising to have the feel of a retro, 'Dream Machine' type of arcade from the 90's with some more modern touches.

Rift Arcade will feature more than 40 classic games that will be quarter-operated. From air hockey to skeeball to some serious iconic games like Mortal Kombat and Pac-Man. Many of those games will offer tickets which can be redeemed for prizes. They've also set up a lounge where console gamers can sit down, relax and mash buttons.

Rift Arcade Will Serve Food and Adult Beverages

While Rift Arcade plans to be fun for all ages, they also plan to ensure adults that visit can enjoy some signature cocktails meant strictly for them.

While Rift hasn't released their full menu yet, they did tease one of their signature drinks called a Gin and Sonic. More deliciousness and puns coming soon. They plan to host 21+ nights on Friday and Saturday.

Leaning into their 90's roots, their food menu will feature items that kids who grew up in that era remember fondly. From pizza bagels to pigs-in-a-blanket to Pop Tarts. All of the items will be house-made and while they'll remind you of the packaged goodies, they'll be pushed to a new level.

Retro Arcades Are Fast Becoming a Popular Hang Out Spot

Recently, Chuck E. Cheese made national headlines by announcing they were getting into the retro arcade business. Chuck's Arcade is a chain of old school arcades branded with Chuck E. Cheese flare that serve adult beverages and feature nostalgic games. The closest Chuck's Arcade to Maine is in Salem, New Hampshire.

Rift Arcade plans to announce their grand opening date very soon.
