Another Family Dollar Store in Maine is Permanently Closing
It hasn't exactly been a great couple of years for the Family Dollar brand.
The chain announced in 2024 that it would begin the process of closing more than 1,000 locations across the nation.
Many of those stores were underperforming but others simply had lease or real estate deals that were set to expire.
The company needed to cut costs and save money and it would be cheaper to simply close the store than continue operations.
That has led to 11 Family Dollar locations across Maine to close over the past two years.
And another one is about to join them.
Family Dollar in Rockland, Maine, Announces Plans to Permanently Close
According to Midcoast Villager, the next Family Dollar location in Maine to close will be in Rockland.
The Family Dollar in Rockland has a lease agreement set to expire and rather than renew at a higher expense, the location will close.
Family Dollar at 197 Park Street in Rockland has been in business for 17 years. The store has already hung signage announcing that it is closing with sales ongoing until it locks the doors for good at the end of February.
More Family Dollar Stores Across Maine Are in Danger of Closing As Well
In November of 2025, residents of Old Orchard Beach, Maine, were surprised to see their Family Dollar permanently closing.
Similar to the case in Rockland, it was a lease decision. Several other Family Dollar locations across Maine have lease agreements nearing the point where the chain will have to decide to renew or close the store.
