Rockland May Close Main Street and Bring Businesses Outside

You know how when you're a kid you think the grown-ups have it all figured out? Then you become an adult and you realize we're all just winging it?

There has never been a time in my 30 years of life that I've felt like we as a society have all been collectively winging it more than during this pandemic. The coronavirus and its impact on the economy have been unprecedented. We're largely throwing spaghetti at the wall and seeing what sticks as we move forward.

Rockland is considering something so crazy as they reopen their economy, it just might work.

According to News Center Maine, Rockland city leaders will be meeting tonight to discuss shutting down Main Street to traffic and allowing businesses to bring their business outside a la open-air market.

Imagine walking down Main Street and seeing tables from restaurants being brought outside. Shopping from boutiques and gift shops as they bring out racks of clothing, toys, and other nicknacks. Honestly, it sounds quite fun.

It's not a foolproof plan however, the city would need to find ways to efficiently and effectively reroute traffic, consider parking, then, of course, nail down a weather protocol.

Whether it happens or not, I think it's pretty great that it's being discussed. Plus, who wants to be cooped up during the gorgeous Maine summers anyway? Especially in beautiful Rockland.
