Old Orchard Beach, Maine, Restaurant Now Serving ‘Rolled’ Ice Cream
When spring begins to bloom in Maine, many of the state's seasonal ice cream shops open their doors. There's some great ice cream to be found from the Midcoast to the mountains in Maine, and long summer lines will tell you that there is a market for it in Vacationland.
But Maine is mostly a two-types-of-ice-cream state: soft serve or hard serve. Those types of ice cream are the best-known and most-desired, so it makes perfect sense. But there is a new type of ice cream being popularized in other parts of the country, and it has finally made its way to one of Maine's most popular tourist towns.
According to Saco Bay News, the small restaurant called Asian House has acquired the equipment and skillset to make 'rolled' ice cream. Unlike other types of ice cream, it is made on the spot by applying a base to a conditioned piece of equipment that freezes it quickly. It's then rolled and served in a cup or dish.
Asian House said on Facebook that their rolled ice cream venture will have four different flavors to start: vanilla, chocolate, coconut, and thai tea. From there, guests can mix in items like fresh fruit, as well as Oreo cookies or Nutella. From there, you can treat it like a sundae and cover it in sauce or whipped cream.
Since the rolled ice cream is delicate, it's suggested you order in-house or for immediate pickup to fully enjoy the experience. Asian House in Old Orchard Beach is open seven days a week from 11am until 9pm.
