Maine City Being Named One of the ‘Rudest’ in the Nation Doesn’t Make Sense
If you look up the definition of "rude", you'll find it describes someone who is offensive, ill-mannered, or impolite. For most people that live in Maine, they likely wouldn't describe their neighbor that way. Maine prides itself on being a very friendly state but according to a recent article by ALOT Travel, Vacationland is home to one of the rudest cities in America.
ALOT Travel took to naming the "rudest" city in every state nationwide. Many of their choices make perfect sense. Large cities like Boston, Los Angeles, and Chicago all make the list. Big cities have lots of people, and plenty of chances to encounter rude folks.
But the choice for Maine? Auburn. Yes, one half the twin cities was named the "rudest" city in all of the state. If you need more information as to why ALOT Travel came to that conclusion, so do we.
In their small blurb, ALOT Travel makes mention that Auburn has one of the highest crime rates in all of Maine. While that statement is true, that still doesn't really explain how it makes residents of the city the "rudest" in the state.
What makes people rude in Maine? Traffic. Too much tourism. Bad weather. With just a handful of reasons like that in mind, it would seem that cities like Portland or Bangor may have a case for being the "rudest". Perhaps coastal towns like Boothbay Harbor or Kennebunkport could make a case for being a little ornery during the year.
Instead, Auburn, Maine, is your rudest city in the state, and that doesn't really make sense.
