When people think about airports in Maine, they typically focus in on two cities, Bangor and Portland.

Those two places are home to the state's largest commercial airports. In fact, the Portland International Jetport set a record for passengers in 2025 exceeding 2.5 million.

But for many years, neither Portland nor Bangor has been home to the 'busiest' airport in Maine.

That title has belonged to the Sanford Seacoast Regional Airport. The Sanford, Maine, airport has been a hub for corporate flights, flight training and general aviation.

And it's about to become home to something else unique.

What started as a concert in February has come to life in May as the Hangar is set for its grand opening over Memorial Day weekend.

The Hangar food truck park is an open-air pavilion that features tables and some sights you really won't find anywhere else, plans landing and taking off.

The Hangar food truck park will have a rotating group of food trucks over the next several months. While the food truck park was intended to fill a void for food and beverage for those using the airport, it is completely open to the public as well.

Pilot's Cove Cafe at The Sanford, Maine, Airport Closed Last Year

Before there was a food truck park, there was a cafe. Pilot's Cove Cafe closed permanently last year and is now being temporarily replaced on site by the Southern Maine Aviation flight school.

The school is in the process of building a permanent space at the airport. Between construction and more than 40,000 flights coming and going from the airport, food and beverage options were sorely needed.

The Hangar food truck park will have an updated calendar of what food trucks are stationed at the park and their timers of operation.
