The Super NES Classic Edition Takes You Back to High School This September
After the success of last year's NES Classic console, Nintendo has announced the Super NES Classic is coming out this fall.
In 2016, Nintendo drove fans of all ages crazy with the release of the NES Classic. The miniature version of the video game console that revived the industry in the 1980s was loaded up with 30 iconic and beloved games that captured everything the world loved about Nintendo's little grey box. Of course, that was only if you could get your hands on one. The NES Classic was such a massive hit, demand for the $50 flashback machine vastly outstripped supply, leaving many continually searching for NES Classics through the holiday season. Or paying the marked up prices on secondary retail outlets in order to satisfy that craving.
Now one year later, the Super NES Classic will find its way to retail. This time, Nintendo is shipping the miniaturized version of its 16-bit console with 21 games, including fan-favorites like EarthBound, Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario Kart, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and Final Fantasy III. Additionally, the SNES Classic will include one of the most sought-after sequels that never saw the light of day anywhere, Star Fox 2. Yes, for the first time in history, you'll be able to play the original Star Fox sequel on the console it was built for, even if it is about 20 years after the fact.
Due out on September 29, the Super NES Classic will set you back $79.99 if you can snag one at retail. No telling how much those dastardly scalpers will attempt to mark it up, but $200+ would certainly not be out of the question. Here's hoping Nintendo has its supply pipeline in order before the fall onslaught begins, You definitely won't want to miss out on this release.
Below, you'll find a complete listing of every game shipping on the console. Also included with the SNES Classic will be two wired controllers, an HDMI cable and a USB charging cable with an AC adapter. Good luck, Super Nintendo fans. You're going to need it.
