Super Space Geek-Out: Pluto in UltraHD! [PHOTO]
For the first time, we finally have an ultra-HD photo of what was formerly the ninth planet of our happy solar family.
Now, Pluto's just the redheaded sheep of the family!
Last night, NASA released a super-HD photo over 70MB in size, that presents the visual data from the New Horizons probe in a stunning image.
When you zoom in, you can see Pluto's mountain ranges, frozen rivers of ice, desert landscapes, and an amazing array of color.
Who knew the furthest world from Earth had so much character?
NASA's New Horizons probe was humanity's first probe to reach Pluto, and conducted a fly-by observation in July. The initial photos took hours to transmit back across the solar system, and were relatively low quality images. We're just receiving the more complete, detailed images this fall.
