Back in 2000, the WCYY Holiday Bizarre brought Orgy, Disturbed, and Maine’s own Rustic Overtones and 6Gig to a sold-out crowd of 7,500 at the Cumberland County Civic Center. It was a night of adrenaline, chaos, and unforgettable rock energy.

WCYY's 2006 Holiday Bizarre was a big one. We welcomed back Disturbed along with Stone Sour, Flyleaf and Nonpoint. We had all 4 bands come by the radio station to chat on the air and perform for some lucky winners before the big event at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

It’s been 33 years since one of the many legendary rock shows went down at the Cumberland County Civic Center (now Cross Insurance Arena), in Portland, Maine. We’ve been blessed with a lot of them, but this one is one of those that is still talked about to this day. On October 8th, 1991, Van Halen graced the stage with their rock royalty and it was an unforgettable night.

If you were at the Cumberland County Civic Center (now known as the Cross Insurance Arena) on that memorable night, you probably remember an explosive performance as these two iconic bands took the stage.

They had recently released their massive album, "American Idiot". When the news dropped that Green Day was coming to Portland, Maine, fans lost their minds.

Peter was dead on, and the entire arena roared as the puck slipped through that tiny hole.

I warped my album 'Private Dancer' from playing it so much.

Last week, I went to a high school graduation at the renovated Cumberland County Civic Center. The civic center designers and staff left me very impressed.
