Are you old enough to remember penny candy? Lots of stores would have a counter or case filled with buckets and boxes of individual candy all sold for 1¢ a piece. It was a cheap way to get a sugar high when you were a kid, but times have changed. You'd be hard-pressed to name one thing to buy for 1¢ today.

I remember the corner store at the end of my street growing up in South Paris in the '70s and '80s. The neighborhood kids and I would ride our bikes down Nichols Street with a pocket full of change we stole from the bottom of our mother's purse, and hear in jingle as we rode across the railroad tracks. We'd ditch our bikes on the ground, ignoring the fact that they had a kickstand, and run into the corner store to see how much candy we could get for a penny apiece. It was a great time to be a kid.

If you remember the days of penny candy, you'll remember the ones in my list of the 10 best penny candies. Even if you weren't around when penny candy was all the rage, most of the candies you'll have heard of, since a lot are still around today.

Who determined that these are the 10 best penny candies? Me, of course! Your opinion may vary, and if it does, let me know what I missed.
