Unadoptable New England Rescue-Turned-Police K9 Saved a Boys Life & It’s a Netflix Movie
Rescue dogs are heroes to all of us who have them. You've heard the saying and seen the bumper sticker that we don't save a rescue dog's life, but rather they save ours.
My Great Pyrenees/Australian Shepard Mix rescue, Willy, is my lifesaver as most pets are. Shelter dogs themselves are special in their own right, as we dog-lovers know. I mean, most have experienced abandonment and other forms of trauma, or can't find a forever home.
There are also situations where someone adopts a dog then returns it, and in the case of Ruby, she was literally unadoptable.
This Netflix movie is about this adorable, spirited German Shepard in Rhode Island who was adopted and returned five times. Yes, FIVE TIMES.
Rescued By Ruby premiered on March 17, 2022, and tells the story of Ruby's 2011 journey. She went from unadoptable and almost euthanized, to meeting shelter volunteer Patricia Inman, whose passionate dedication working with Ruby prevented her from being put down.
Ruby was eventually taken in by Rhode Island State Trooper, now Corporal, Dan O'Neil, who trained Ruby to become a Rhode Island Police K9.
According to Corporal O'Neil, in 2018, years after he adopted her, dispatch received a missing boy call. 36 hours later when they couldn't find the boy, Ruby was called in and found him deep in the woods severely injured because of a fall. Now, get out your tissues for happy tears because guess who the missing boy's mom is? Patricia Inman, the volunteer from Ruby's shelter. I mean, are you kidding me? You cannot make this stuff up!
Here's a trailer for the Netflix movie.
Here are two more stories about Ruby's actual rescue.
