Unique Sailing Tour of Maine Lighthouses Is the Day Trip You’ve Been Waiting For
If you are looking for a unique daytrip with your special someone, why not take a sailing tour of Maine's lighthouses.
One of the many "experiences" available on Airbnb is a Saco Sail & Lighthouse Tour.
According to the Airbnb listing, you and the other guests will board the 42" sailing sloop Mistress at the Saco docks. Guests will be given a tour of the boat and getting a safety briefing. Then, it's time to set sail.
You'll sail out of the mouth of the Saco River and into Saco Bay. The captain and crew will tell stories of the history of the Saco River and the islands of Saco Bay. You'll even sail up the coast to Old Orchard Beach.
Guests will hop into a small boat and make the trip to Wood Island. You'll then walk the 1/2 mile wood boardwalk to the lighthouse. You'll have a chance to take a look in the lightkeepers house. You'll even have a chance to walk the spiral staircase to the top of the lighthouse, where you'll have a chance to see the coasts of Maine and New Hampshire.
During your excursion, you'll want to keep your eyes open for Maine wildlife.
The experience lasts about four hours and costs about $400 per person.
