We all know that we've got some quality brew in Maine, but USA Today readers have caught on as well. They ranked Portland's Novare Res Bier Café as number 5 in the nation's Top 10 beer bars. Shockingly, Novare Res was New England's only featured spot on the list.

The reasons Novare Res showed up on the list is no surprise. With their summer outdoor space with picnic tables, plenty of space, and cornhole, coupled with their homey atmosphere inside and tons of beers on tap, this place is a beer lover's dream come true. Even for someone who doesn't enjoy beer, the place has got a full bar and a wealth of ciders, along with a handful of delicious local non-alcoholic options. Basically, you're gonna find what you're looking for at Novare Res.

“Beer lovers in Portland, Maine will find more than two dozen rotating taps and some 300 bottles at Novare Res Bier Café,” 10Best editors wrote. “When the weather is nice, patrons gather over pints on outdoor picnic tables.”

10Best got that right. My first visit there, I asked the bartender if he had a sour he could recommend. I don't remember the exact number, but he said they have some 30 on tap and they're all delicious. I have yet to confirm his claim but I have no doubt it's true.
