According to WMUR, Melissa Patnoe from Vermont posted to Facebook a video recorded by her husband of an unusually close encounter with what is believed to be an extremely rare black bobcat.

Local game wardens had been notified before her husband got him on video, according to Melissa. She said in a Facebook comment that she was told he looked healthy but thought something was wrong considering he seemingly was not afraid of people and looked "mangey."

The news site goes on to explain that bobcats that are black in color are called melanistic bobcats. Melanism is defined as an "an increased amount of black or nearly black pigmentation (as of skin, feathers, or hair) of an individual or kind of organism."

According to the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department, Bobcats in general, are "rarely seen" since are only active at dawn or dusk. There have only been 20 black Bobcat sightings ever documented so if this was indeed a Black Bobcat, that would be extremely exciting!

Have you ever seen a Bobcat? If so, when and where?
