‘The Walking Dead’ Had EVERY Cast Member Shoot Negan Death Scenes
It’s no secret that The Walking Dead had its work cut out to keep its big Season 6 death under wraps, awkwardly positioning the cliffhanger as something spoiler-hounds could easily sniff out in Season 7 production. We’d heard of at least some precautions taken to keep the victim a secret, but it seems The Walking Dead is sparing no expense, shooting death scenes for every single character involved.
You’re warned of potential spoilers from here on out, but where Season 7 production has moved on from shooting the immediate cliffhanger resolution, Negan’s victim may not actually have been selected just yet. According to The Hollywood Reporter, series stars Chandler Riggs, Andrew Lincoln, Danai Gurira, Josh McDermitt, Lauren Cohan, Sonequa Martin-Green, Norman Reedus, Ross Marquand, Christian Serratos, Michael Cudlitz and Steven Yeun all filmed their own death scene at the end of Negan’s bat, “Lucile.”
As if that weren’t insane enough, so says THR:
The Walking Dead producers and the episode director will then work with the show’s editors and pick the character who does indeed die.
That … seems positively ludicrous, depending on when that quote was spoken, to consider that Negan’s victim may not have been chosen off the … well, bat. Just about everyone listed above has been observed on set post-cliffhanger, to which executive producer Greg Nicotero has noted that the season would shoot partially out of order, which itself still raises questions of characters filming scenes that could end up scrapped by whatever choice editors make.
A lot of fuss for a twist so few appreciated, but will Negan’s victim really stay under wraps before October? What of characters present (or absent) from a likely Season 7 trailer at Comic-Con next month?
