WATCH: Strange Fin Surfaces Near Portland Head Light Over the Weekend
The fog on Saturday evening didn't deter a few Portlanders from boating out to iconic Portland Head Light for some late season sightseeing. As the two couples drifted around the beacon, a strange fin surfaced just beyond the vessel.
We thought it was a shark at first, but the closer it got we could see the fin wasn't pointed enough to be the dorsal fin of a shark.
- Chris Low, Captain of the Boat
The boat inched carefully closer to the creature for further inspection. The fin ducked and surfaced much too slow to be a porpoise. Whales are rarely spotted so close to shore, but could it be a baby whale?
The crew never got a good look at the mysterious sea creature. As you can hear at the end of the video, their best guess was the same one as the super vulgar viral video from 2015. If you haven't seen it yet, and you're in a public place, it's best to watch this video with the volume all the way down.
