Wayne Coyne and Miley Cyrus Covered the Beatles’ ‘Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds’
Now that the Flaming Lips' remake of the Beatles' classic album 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' is a real thing, complete with special guest stars, was anyone too surprised that the band's frontman, Wayne Coyne, joined Miley Cyrus onstage last night for a performance of the record's 'Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds'?
They covered the song during Cyrus' show in Manchester, England, last night and streamed it live to the Billboard Music Awards.
Coyne and Cyrus played up the song's psychedelic tones by dressing the part in multicolored fringed get-ups and neon body paint to match. And they added to the song's already ethereal vibe by slowing down the track. It was so sedate at times that it left you wondering if maybe the duo were on something.
Despite the lethargic pace of the song, it was pretty good. They clearly took liberties with the familiar Beatles version of the song by adding their own parts and drawing out certain notes out.
Apparently both the Manchester and Billboard audiences liked it, based on the response the song received. Cyrus will be part of the Flaming Lips 'Sgt. Pepper's' redo when it comes out on Oct. 28.
