Who Is Stealing The Buoy Bells Off The Coast Of Maine?
It sounds like it would take a lot of effort, but there seems to be a good reason that thieves are targeting buoys off the coast of Maine. According to the Bangor Daily News, a 371 pound bell was recently stolen from a buoy off the coast of Maine. Nine others have been stolen recently. So why do people want theses bells so much? It could be because the bells are made of copper, which has a high resale value. So for the same reason thieves target copper piping in homes, they're going after the buoy bells.
The Coast Guard is offering a reward for information leading to the retrieval of the stolen buoy bells. If you know anything, contact Coast Guard Sector Northern New England Command Center in South Portland at 767-0303.
