Wreaths Across America Arrives in Portland, Maine Sunday

Wreaths Across America, the annual escorting of wreaths from Worcester Wreath Company of Harrington, Maine to Arlington National Cemetary will make a stop for a ceremony in Portland this Sunday and the public is invited to attend.

Wreaths Across America got its start in 1992 when Morrill Worcester, the founder and owner of Worcester Wreath Company in Harrington, had a surplus of wreaths at Christmas. Worcester decided to have the surplus wreaths placed on graves at Arlington to honor those that had served our country.

Today, millions of wreaths are placed at cemeteries all across the United States.

This year's Wreaths Across America convoy will be in Portland on Sunday, December 12 at Cheverus High School as they make their way down to Arlington. Arrival time is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. and a ceremony will be held that the public is invited to.

The convoy will spend the night in Portland before heading out Monday with a stop scheduled at the Eliot Fire Department on State Road around 10 a.m. Then it's off to Merrimack, New Hampshire at the Merrimack American Legion around 1:30 p.m. and over to Brattleboro, Vermont eventually arriving at Arlington on Saturday, December 18 to place the wreaths.
