3D-Printed Meat Now Arriving in Maine Grocery Stores
There is little debate that people in America love to eat meat. Over the last couple of years, meat consumption in the U.S. has increased despite prices going up.
Because of that rising demand as well as the spike in prices, both customers and suppliers have been looking at ways to satisfy demand while keeping prices stable.
And the best way to reach that goal seems to be in the form of 3D-printed meat.
Perfecta Plant-Based Meat Begins to Roll Out in Stores Across Maine
Across a handful of grocery stores in Maine, you'll begin to see a new option showing up in the meat department.
The brand is called Perfecta. It is a plant-based meat that offers a different style than other plant-based meat offerings. Perfecta uses 3D-printing technology to better mimic traditional cuts of beef, poultry and fish.
Currently, Perfecta is slowly phasing in some of their products at independent grocery stores and co-ops throughout Maine.
While you won't find Perfecta at larger stores like Hannaford, Market Basket or Shaw's yet, Perfecta hopes that will change by the end of this year.
Perfecta is Bringing Three Different Meat Options to Stores Currently
While Perfecta plans to offer additional items like salmon, tuna and filet mignon in the future, their current focus is rolling out three specific 3d-printed meat options this year.
Those three initial options are plant-based marbled steak, plant-based chicken breast and plant-based whitefish patties.
The question remains on whether consumers in the northeast will actually buy-in. According to ScienceDirect, there still remains a rather large stigma about plant-based meats and specifically plant-based meats that are 3D-printed for effect.
