Another summer is winding down with cooler temps and shorter days on the way. Always a bummer for me as summer seems to go by in the blink of an eye here in Northern New England, but the fall isn't so bad, I guess. Almost time to throw on a hoodie and check out some of Maine's most beautiful fall foliage.

You don't have to travel far within the state to see some beaming bright trees changing color but if you're looking for the most ultimate views, Travel & Leisure has come up with a the best places to see the fall foliage in Maine.

1. Bar Harbor

If you’re looking for the ultimate fall foliage experience, Bar Harbor is pretty spot on. Located right next to Acadia National Park, it offers awesome views of the vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows that basically scream "autumn in Maine." Hike up Cadillac Mountain for a sunrise that’ll blow your mind or take a scenic drive along the Park Loop Road. Either way, you’re in for some serious Instagram-worthy views.

2. Baxter State Park

For the adventurous types, Baxter State Park is where you’ll find some of the most jaw-dropping fall scenery in the state. It’s home to Mount Katahdin, Maine’s highest peak, and the place to be if you’re into hiking and all the outdoorsy stuff. Whether you’re trekking up the mountain or just hanging out by one of the park’s many lakes, the explosion of autumn colors will be everywhere. Just make sure to plan ahead—this spot tends to get busy when the leaves start turning.

3. Bethel

If you’re into small-town charm with a side of epic fall foliage, Bethel has got you covered. It's known more as the town next to Sunday River, but the fall foliage views are something straight out of a postcard. It's a pretty great spot to soak in the season without the crowds.
