One of Maine's best family destinations for the summer for over 50 years is ready to start a brand new season. The Boothbay Railway Village is opening on Father's Day.

It was almost 50 years ago that I rode the narrow gauge train at what was then called the Boothbay Railroad Museum. It was sometime in the early 70s. The picture below says 1973 but I think I was older than two because I remember having this picture taken. My parents asked me to stand on the edge of the platform as the train approached. I felt like I was a little too close. The steam locomotive was small compared to most because of its narrow gauge, but it was still loud and big for someone my age. They did manage to get the picture though.

And when my son was born, he was the second generation of Parsons to be a fan of The Boothbay Railway Village when we took him to visit Thomas the Tank Engine back in 2009.

Jake's 14 now so probably has outgrown Boothbay Railway Village so we won't be going for opening day, but I still go every few years just for the experience since I'm a lifelong train lover.

The ride is short, running around the loop twice, but the young kids will love it and adults will love the village itself especially those who love antique cars.

Boothbay Railway Village opens for the season on June 20 at 10 a.m. and is reaming open until 5 p.m. For more details and hours, hit the link below to go to the Boothbay Railway Village website.
