Café Louis Named Best New Restaurant in 2022 by the Portland Press Herald
One of South Portland's newest restaurant hot spots received some tremendous accolades to finish out 2022.
Congratulations to Café Louis. The Costa Rican-inspired restaurant received high praise from Maine largest newspaper, the Portland Press Herald.
The Press Herald's food editor Andrew Ross awarded Café Louis the title of the number one new restaurant for 2022. The tasty establishment opened in 2021, but got the honor of still being called "new" since it opened late in the year.
Café Louis is known for its creative Costa Rican fusion. The unique menu includes favorites like fried plantains, a Media Noche sandwich, fresh seafood dishes, and one of the best burgers in Greater Portland.
Ross heaped considerable praise on Cafe's Louis's Evan Richardson, the mastermind behind the concept and tasty food. What blows Ross's mind the most is the magic that Richardson and his team pull off in such a small footprint.
What’s more, in his 770-square-foot digs across the bridge, Richardson’s team is able to prepare nearly everything (except ketchup, he tells me) in-house: first-class sourdough bread, tortillas, challah buns for tallow-fried smash burgers, stocks, even ice cream.
The entire write-up is a wonderful ode to a restaurant that has been an amazing addition to the South Portland scene, which also includes Judy Gibson and SoPo Sea Food. Both have been huge hits since joining the neighborhood. In fact, Judy Gibson was named the best new restaurant in 2021. That's quite a little block of establishments in Mill Creek.
Congratulations to Café Louis on this incredible recognition. The future seems bright for Richardson and his team...as long as those fried plantains never leave the menu.
Other award winners from the Press Herald's post include Zu Bakery, Jin Yan, Mangus on Water, and many more. You can read the entire list of awards and winners here.
