CMP Says Prepare for Long Power Outages in Maine; Get Updated Numbers Here

In pure 2020 fashion, our first winter storm knocked the power out and caused havoc across the state.

This storm came with heavy wet snow, and winds.

According to WMTW, CMP worked through Saturday night just to get things at a safety level that they could start to get to work on turning the lights back on, and more than 225,000 customers were hit by this storm.

As of 9 a.m. Monday, December 7, there were still over 75,000 people listed without power on CMP's website.

CMP categorized the latest storm as a Level III storm, which history has shown can have outages lasting three to five days, the news station reported.

They are working as fast as they can. CMP posted some pictures in Saco as an example of what they are dealing with.

The storm was not a surprise, and they prepared with 336 line crews - and all were working. They also had 181 tree crews ready for downed trees, according to WMTW, and another 136 line crews are coming to Maine to help from New York and Connecticut.

CMP also reminds you that if you do not have power:

• Stay away from downed lines. No line is safe to touch.
• Turn off or unplug major appliance and sensitive electronics.
• Never use range or outdoor stoves to heat your home.
