Maine Has One of the Highest DUI Arrest Rates in the Nation
You would have to live in a cave to not be fully aware that drinking and driving is against the law across the United States. In fact, you'd probably be aware of that even if you did live in a cave.
Here in Maine, the messaging is clear, concise and delivered to motorists in many different ways. From radio, TV and internet ads to quippy signs along major roadways. Law enforcement and accompanying agencies are continuously reminding drivers to obey the law.
And yet every single day in Maine, someone gets behind the wheel of a vehicle after having too much to drink. Which has ranked Maine high on a list that the state wants no part of.
Maine Ranks Among Top 15 States in America in DUI Arrest Rate
According to statistics released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Maine ranks 14 out of 50 states when it comes to Driving Under the Influence arrest rate. There are roughly 457 arrests made in Maine for every 100,000 people each year.
While that may not seem like much on the surface given Maine's overall population, those arrest numbers include visitors to Maine. Those are plentiful in the state during all four seasons but specifically summer.
Maine Also Has a High Percentage of Fatal Accidents Caused By Drunk Drivers
According to Forbes Advisor, for every 100,000 drivers in America, 8.57 drunk drivers are involved in a fatal crash. That statistic is both heartbreaking and infuriating.
Applying those statistics to Maine, the NHTSA found that amongst the fatal accidents that took place in Maine, 29% of them involved a drunk driver.
