For more than a decade now, the upstairs at Empire has been home to local and touring musical acts from across the globe. Empire has also dabbled in the comedy scene as well. But in 2020, Empire has decided to focus in on comedy, and Portland's need for a destination and home for comedy, as they plan to rebrand themselves as Empire Comedy Club.

Making the announcement on Facebook, Empire Comedy Club will make the full transition on January 1st, 2020 and plan to announce a full slate of local, regional and national comedy acts for their schedule. In the past, Empire has hosted popular acts like Rich Vos, Doug Stanhope, Chris Distefano and former SNL cast member Brooks Whelan.

For those that are curious about the Empire Chinese Kitchen on the ground floor of the building, nothing is changing with that. These changes are exclusive to the upstairs entertainment venue and the very popular restaurant will remain intact.

Empire Comedy Club has a new Facebook page, and will continue to update it with new show announcements and other information as the club finds its footing.
