When Fat Boy Drive-In was listed for sale in December, many residents of Brunswick and surrounding towns were shocked and dismayed. For some, it felt like the end of an era for a friendly, throwback restaurant that are dwindling in numbers. But as it turns out, Fat Boy Drive-In will be back in 2019 and not only will it be back, but it will be under the same ownership as well.

According to the Times-Record, Fat Boy Drive-In is set to reopen sometime this month, with the same menu and service that people have come to know for decades. The Burton family, whom currently owns the business, said they received several offers to purchase it from them but weren't what they expected. Thus, they're back for another year.

Fat Boy Drive-In opened in 1955 and has been a Brunswick staple ever since. In the 50's, drive-in diners were popular, but very few remain in Maine. Val's Drive-In in Lewiston and Fat Boy are two that continue to stand out.

But while Fat Boy Drive-In has continued to survive a slew of fast food chains over the years, one thing they've struggled with recently is finding good, consistent help. The business had to close their seasonal business early in 2016 because of a lack in help. The Burtons are hopeful there will no backlash from their attempt to sell the business, although it still remains for sale.
