Fire Torches 3 Vehicles at Summit of NH’s Mount Washington

It took 1,000 gallons of water to put out three vehicles that caught fire on the summit of Mount Washington on Sunday morning.

Fire crews from Gorham and Jackson carefully made their way up the Mount Washington Auto Road and completed the 8 mile drive in about 30 minutes, according to Gorham Fire and EMS. The road was crowded, as it had been opened early for a sunrise drive.

Strong winds helped spread the flames from one car to all three that were parked next to each other.  Gas inside one of the tanks also ignited.  All three vehicles were destroyed.

The Rockingham Alert Facebook page said the wind was blowing at 45 mph at the time.

The cause of the fire is undetermined, but is not considered to be suspicious.

Sarah Rydgren was on the sunrise ride and commented on the Rockingham Alert page that she smelled a "weird electrical type smell" just before the fire started.

No one was injured in the fire.
