Full Bellies on Fat Tuesday: Maine Restaurant Week Kicks Off With Breakfast Cook-Off
Maine Restaurant Week got off to a runny start today (Like eggs! Get it? Probably...) at the Sea Dog Brew Pub in South Portland today with their annual Breakfast Cook-Off. For the 8th straight year, chefs from local restaurants prepared a unique breakfast dish and competed for votes to see who's is the best. This year's selections included everything from pork belly and banana bread breakfast sandwiches to chocolate covered thick-cut bacon. As usual, everything was absolutely delicious - I'm fighting off a tremendous food coma as I write this.
WCSH6 had video coverage of the event; watch below! WARNING: If you're hungry, you should probably wait until you've eaten to get an eyeful of these delicious early meal options.
If you thought the event couldn't get any better, it does - all of the proceeds from the event go to benefit the Preble Street Resource Center, in order to feed Mainers in need. This event is only the first of many, though. Other Maine Restaurant Week events include a cocktail competition, as well as a challenge in pairing dessert with coffee! If you're interested in going for the Breakfast Cook-Off next year, keep your eyes open for flyers around town and posts about Maine Restaurant Week online. In the meantime, I think I need to take a nap...
