Georgia Woman Arrested in Maine After Driving 1200 Miles With No Windshield
...Now here's a story you might not read every day, and no, it's not an April Fool's joke.
The Kennebec County District Attorney's office told the Portland Press Herald and CentralMaine.com this weekend that Anh Mai, 25, of Norcross, Georgia, was arrested by the Maine State Police last week.
She was charged with failing to stop for an officer and operating an unsafe vehicle.
...so what did she do?
According to CentralMaine.com, Mai was stopped in the Augusta area on Thursday for failing to pull over for a police cruiser. The state trooper noticed that she was traveling in the fast lane at a slow rate of speed, so he flashed his lights to get her to pull into the right lane. When she didn't, he tried to pull her over, and she didn't stop right away.
Eventually, she pulled over at exit 112B in Augusta, and was arrested for failing to stop. When the trooper was arresting her, he noticed that her car was entirely missing a front windshield. Accuweather records show that it was in the low 30s on Thursday night in the Augusta area.
While she initially told the police that the car was in an accident in New Jersey, police were able to determine that the crash had actually happened in her home state of Georgia. She then drove to New York, had her car impounded, retrieved it from the impound, and proceeded to aimlessly drive north to Maine, without any apparent destination.
Maine State Police Trooper Randy Hall said that she "...drove to Maine with the windshield smashed out. No destination in Maine. She stated she was just driving.”
File this one under crazy police reports. This just goes to show that you never really know who you'll meet on the roads here in Maine. Drive Safe!
