It's been four years since Green Day released their trilogy of albums, but they had good reason for the time off, with both Mike Dirnt's wife and longtime Green Day live collaborator Jason White dealing with cancer scares. But as the band prepares to return, drummer Tre Cool reveals that all is well.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, the drummer states, "We're ready to rock. All those health issues are behind us. We're going into this record cycle with a lot of gratitude, a lot of humility. We just really do enjoy the s--t out of being in a rock and roll band with our best friends."

When it comes to distractions, you could also include singer Billie Joe Armstrong's stint in rehab, which initially limited the band's touring support of their trilogy. But Armstrong did eventually return and the band did play shows in support of the three albums and got back on track before starting their next disc.

Cool tells EW that the band went "down and dirty" for their new album, and that the relationships, both personal and musical, are stronger than ever. "No one's closer with [Billie] than Mike and I. [We were] trying to make the music and the voices in Billie's head come to life."

Though there were the occasional social media updates, Green Day largely kept their recording sessions under wraps. That allowed the band to record on their own timeline without the pressure of a deadline. Green Day just released the single "Bang Bang" last month and will serve up their Revolution Radio album Oct. 7 via Reprise Records.
